Hebrews 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

My friends the one certainty in this life is death. You can be assured of nothing else in this world. You can’t be certain your car is going to start, you can’t be certain that your house is going to be there when you return home, you can’t even be certain about your next breath. But you can be certain that you are going to die. God has drawn a line, and you will not cross it, he already knows what day will be your last on this earth and with each passing day, you’re 24 hours closer to your appointment. And you know, most people realize this; the bible says that the living know that they shall die, but the dead know not anything (Ecclesiastes 9:5). But how many people are preparing themselves for that day?

How many try to block the thought from their minds? Sometimes when you try to speak to people about the subject, they don’t want to hear it, because they say it scares them. And rightfully so, if your heart is not right with your Maker, you should be scared, for it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

And just as truly as it is appointed for man to die, man is also appointed to face judgment. The bible says,
“Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.  For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

My friend, the devils tremble when they think about this hour and so should everyone who has not been born again. Can you imagine standing before the judge of the universe, and giving an account for every idle word? For every lie? For every hateful word? For every thought or action that was not to the glory of GOD? Can you imagine standing there knowing that you are guilty and that you’re about to be blotted off of the face of the earth? Cast into the lake of fire which is the second death? If you don’t know Jesus then you should fear; and many do fear; they spend their lifetime fearing death. But when you meet Jesus he removes the fear of death and of the judgment.

Hebrews 2:14-15   Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Jesus, by his death, sealed the fait of Satan, and by his death upon the cross he delivered us from the bondage of fear. My friend the gospel removes the sting of death and it removes the fear of an adverse judgment.

What is the Gospel?

What is the gospel? It is not advice on how you can make yourself good enough to reach heaven. The gospel is not a set of rules; as in, ‘you can be saved if you accept 27 doctrines and attend the right church’.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is Good News. News is not something future, but it is a report of something that has already happened. Do you remember what Paul said the “Good news” was that he preached?

He said, “Christ died for our sins”.
He said, “Jesus was buried”.
And He said, “he rose again the third day” (1st Corinthians 15:1-4).

My friends that is good news! But how many people realize why it is ‘Good news’? The Son of GOD dieing, and being buried in a tomb three days doesn’t sound like something good does it? But when you realize that he died for our sins; that he died in our place, that he was judged in our stead, it becomes very good news. Why?

Before Adam and Eve sinned, they had perfect fellowship with God. They were one. But when they sinned against him, that sin put a barrier between God and man. The bible says that sin separates you from GOD. And not only were they separated from GOD, but there fell upon them the appointment of death and judgment. You know that the bible says that the wages of sin is death, and the soul that sins it shall die. Thus when man sinned, he fell under condemnation. And from Adam the whole human race inherited a sinful nature, with a tendency to sin. And all of Adam’s family has sinned and come short of the glory of GOD. Thus they are all appointed to die, and they will face the judgment; my friend that is the bad news.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Galatians 4:3-5  Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

My friends God so loved us, that he sent his Son to this world to redeem us from the condemnation of the law. What is the price of our redemption? What did we owe the law? Our life. And only the life of the Son of GOD could satisfy our debt.

So what happened to Jesus while he was on the cross?

2nd Corinthians 5:21   For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Every sin, ever committed or ever will be committed was placed upon the Son of GOD. What does that mean? His spotless account, received the credit for the sins of mankind. Our transgressions were imputed, or reckoned to Jesus Christ that day. When God looked upon his Son, he saw us.

In other words--Jesus fulfilled our appointments.

He was judged and found guilty of all our sins, the wrath of GOD was poured out upon him, and he was separated from his Father. And he died a sinner’s death for us.

Jesus fulfilled our appointment with the second death.

Jesus fulfilled our appointment with condemnation.

He paid our debt in full. When Christ died we died.

2nd Corinthians 5:14-15   For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Here is an example.
Let’s say there is a criminal named Adam on death row, and he is scheduled to die in the electric chair. But before his date with death, he meets with his twin brother Joshua, and Joshua loves Adam, and he doesn’t want Adam to die.

So Joshua changes clothes with Adam. Adam takes the white linen suit of Joshua, and Joshua takes the red prison garment of Adam.

And Joshua says, I will take your Prison I.D. I’ll be Adam, I’ll face the judge for you, and on that day, I will die in your place.

You take my I.D. and you be Joshua; in my name there is no condemnation, I’ve never broken the law.. You go and live my life. But never forget Adam is dead.

And so it is with Christ; he seen our condition, and he came to our level. He clothed himself in our garments, he took our name and our account, and he died in our place.

And he gave to us his name, he clothed us with his garment, we receive his spotless account, so that we can live forever as a child of GOD. And just as ‘Adam’ of our story was safe and free from the condemnation of the law as long as he hid himself in Joshua, we are safe and free from the condemnation of the law, as long as our life is hid in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:3   For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

Romans 6:6   Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Because the Christian’s record of sins and our old man was crucified with Christ on the Cross and because our life is now hid in Christ Jesus, we are free from the condemnation of the law.

Romans 7:1-6 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. (2Timothy 2:11, Romans 6:8, Romans 6:11, Romans 7:1-6)

My friend it is impossible for the law to condemn a dead man and it is equally impossible for it to condemn those whose lives are hid in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Can the believer come into condemnation?

John 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

My friend, the good news is that all that is necessary for salvation has already been accomplished and it only remains for us to accept it by faith. “Believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ and though shalt be saved”.

We receive Christ by faith, and we stand by faith (Romans 11:20). There is no such thing as almost saved, or kinda’ saved; you are either in Christ Jesus by faith, or you are not in Christ Jesus.

Jesus Christ is either in you by faith, or he is not in you at all (Galatians 3:2).

If Christ is in you, then you are saved, if he is standing at the door and knocking you are lost.

If Christ is in you, then you are in Christ Jesus, and you wear his spotless robe.

If Christ is not in you, then you are wearing your record of sin (Romans 8:9).

If Christ dwells in you through the Spirit, then you have received a new heart and a new mind; and you will bear the fruits of the Spirit.

Jesus said we’d know them by their fruits. And we should know ourselves. There is no reason to run this race in vain.

2 Corinthians 13:5   Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

If Jesus Christ comes to live within a person, there will a change in that person; the most prominent change will be LOVE. He will not only love his neighbor, but he will love GOD. If you love GOD, you will want to please GOD. If you are born of the Spirit, you will no longer look at God’s law as a manuscript of condemnation and death, but rather a law of liberty. A perfect standard of righteousness, and you will order your life accordingly because you love the Lawgiver and you wish to please him (1st John 5:3).

Galatians 5:4  Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Here in Galatians we read of Christians who taught that for one to be justified, they had to do a work of the law. The Pharisees were teaching them that to be declared righteous they had to not only believe upon Christ Jesus, but they also had to do be circumcised. They were teaching Faith plus works. Paul explained to them that if they worked for their justification, then they had fallen from Grace. For if it is grace then it is no more works, but if it is works then it is not grace (Romans 11:6).

Paul then sets forth the right doctrine.

Galatians 5:6   For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

The only thing that Paul says matters is faith, and true faith expresses its self through works of love. Not in an attempt to gain righteousness, but rather to express our love and gratitude to GOD for saving us.

My friends the gospel is truly good news to the sinner man. It is good news to hear that your death penalty has already been paid! It is good news to hear that you can receive the righteousness of Jesus Christ, and stand before GOD as if you had never sinned. It is good news to hear that Jesus wants to come and live in your heart and make you a new creature, and to free you from the bondage of sins.

And it is good news to hear that all you have to do to receive this amazing gift of love is to TRUST GOD.

Romans 10:9-10   That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
