LOOKING TO ANOTHER – Is Mary Co-Redeemer and our Mediator?

In the following sermon we will be quoting the Roman Catholic book “Ten Series of Meditations on the Mystery of the Rosary” by John Ferraro. The book was officially stated by the Roman Catholic Church to be “Free of doctrinal or moral error” [It received the Nihil Obstat and the Imprimatur].

And we do so to show that Rome’s infatuation with Mary has lead them to see her in the place of Jesus Christ. Some here may ask, “But none in this church venerates Mary”. And that is so, but we must always guard ourselves against the evil of creature worship. And we  must learn to rely upon Christ alone for our salvation, and not to anyone or anything else.

“She [Mary] is co-Redemptrix of the human race... The church and the saints greet her thus: You, O Mary, together with Jesus Christ, redeemed us." {Ibid}

Here the Roman is teaching that Mary is our Co-Redeemer. That Christ alone did not redeem us, but he had help through his mother Mary. But this is not what the Bible teaches. Peter wrote:

1 Peter 1:18-19  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Something corruptible was not the price of our redemption, but something precious, and uncorruptible, that is the Divine Blood of Jesus Christ.

Mary was no doubt a good Christian, and a good mother, but like the rest of us who are born from the loins of men, she was corruptible, she was imperfect, and she was a sinner. Rome may say that she was conceived without sin, and never sinned. But the Bible declares them to be liars! For it plainly tells us that “All have sinned”. And ALL are under sin.

The only thing in this universe that could redeem us back to GOD is the Blood of Christ. All the tears in the world would not redeem us! All the good works that man could muster would not redeem us. All the heart break and agony that a human soul could bear, would not redeem us. Nothing but the Blood of the Son of GOD could satisfy the Law’s demand!

Now why would Rome THINK to make Mary a co-redeemer? Let’s read from the same Book.

“Mary is our co-Redemptrix because ...she ransomed mankind from the power of Satan... with the agonies of her heart.... Mary is our co-Redemptrix because she suffered in her heart whatever was LACKING in the passion of Christ.” (Ibid)

Did you catch that? They said Mary was Co-Redeemer because her sufferings made up what lacked in the death of Christ! They are teaching that the death of Christ was not a perfect and a complete Sacrifice. But what does the Bible say?

Hebrews 10:11-14  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Christ’s one sacrifice was perfect, Christ’s one Sacrifice is Complete, it was finished at the Cross, for he said, “It is finished!” There is nothing man can add to it, and there is nothing man can take away from it.

But no doubt Rome does not view Calvary in this manner! No, for they must offer Christ over and over again in the heathen ritual of the Mass. Where they say Christ is offered again to satisfy the Justice of God for the sins committed against him.

Now Mark this: Christ’s sacrifice was completed at the cross, there is no sin that he didn’t die for, there is no sin that his blood cannot wash away. Christ didn’t need any help from Mary, and he doesn’t need to offer himself again in a Mass, and it is nothing short of Blasphemy to teach other wise.

“We were condemned through the fault of one woman; we are saved through the merits of another woman.... No true devotee of Mary will be damned because she is the terrible conqueror of the devil...  No one will be saved nor obtain mercy except through You, O' heavenly lady. Remember this well, no one will enter heaven without passing through Mary as one would pass through a door. O' Mary, our salvation is in your hands.” (IBID)

Here the Romans are teaching that Mary is the door of Salvation that the Christians must pass through to be saved... And that she is the conqueror of the Devil.

Yet Christ declared: I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. – John 10:9

Christ said in another place, “I am the WAY, the Truth and the Life; no man comes to the Father but by me”

They said that our Salvation is in Mary’s hands, but Christ declared: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.- John 10:28

Is Mary the conqueror of the Devil?

Hebrews 2:14-15 ¶ Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Oh how these demonic apparitions of Mary are standing in the very place of Christ! But this is the prerogative of the Roman Church, to exalt the creature to the place of the Creator!

There is but one who has conquered death and the grave, and there is but one who will destroy Satan! And he says:

I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. – Isaiah 43:11

“Mary is the ark of salvation built by God on the deluge of our faults so that whoever desires may enter and be saved... If we spread devotion to Mary, we will gain heaven -- It is important to be devoted to Mary as it is to enter heaven, because no one can enter Paradise who is not devoted to Mary.” {IBID}

Here we are told in this Roman Book that no one will be saved who does not devote himself to Mary. Poor John Paul dedicated himself to Mary, he said, “Mary I am all yours”. He even dedicated the whole world and this Millennium to her.

But let me assure you of this, you better not be devoted to another, you better not give yourself to another. Because if you are a Christian you are bought with a price. You are Christ’s, you are to be his slave, and you cannot serve two Masters!

You better be saying, “Christ, I am all yours.. Come and fill me with thy Spirit. I dedicate my entire being to you!”

Because the Bible tells us: Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

“It is necessary for us to have a mediator besides Jesus as mediator, and we will never find one more qualified than Mary... Mary is the compliment of the Holy Spirit. Before God she asks not -- she commands!” {Ibid)

Here the Roman lifts up Mary, and makes her a co-mediator. To lift her up, they lower the mediation of Christ, and make his mediation imperfect. They even exalt Mary above Christ, since Christ ASKS the Father for us, but Mary COMMANDS God.

In the realm of Catholicism many Catholics find it easier to approach Mary, than it is to approach Christ. They think they can pray to Mary and she will go to Christ and the Father and make their petitions known, and they think, “How can Christ deny the request of his mother?”

But tell you friends the Roman teaching is NOT THE TRUTH. And God wants all men to KNOW the truth! What is the truth? Let’s read it.

1st Timothy 2:3-6  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

This is the TRUTH, there is ONE GOD the Father, and there is ONE mediator between that GOD, and Man, and that is Jesus Christ! There is no other Mediator, there is NO other intercessor that pleads your case at the throne of God. There is no other who can lift up their hands and show the nail prints, and say, “I died for that man, or that woman”.

Oh how the Romans waste their breath! They call upon a pantheon of dead people to make intercession for them. They call upon those who cannot hear, cannot see, cannot know, that cannot intercede! It is necromancy and pure evil idolatry.

“Mary is Queen of Apostles because she is mother of grace and channel of mercy... God has ordained that no grace will be granted to us except through Mary... All grace is passed from God to Jesus, from Jesus to Mary, and from Mary to us. The grace of God, cure for our ills, comes to us through Mary like water through an aqueduct.” {Ibid}

Here the Romans teach that Mary is the Channel of grace and mercy. That God’s goodness flows from the Father, through the Son, to Mary, and then from Mary, directly to us. One of the greatest faults in the Roman religion is that they push Christ far from us, and place persons between us and Christ. And here Mary is placed between Christ and the believer.

But this is not the Bible teaching; look at the words of Paul to Titus.

Titus 3:5-6  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; (see also Romans 5:5)

God sheds the holy Spirit on us, through one person and that is Jesus Christ. Again he is the lone mediator! There is NO person between Christ and his children. No Mary, No Pope, No Priest, NO MAN AT ALL... Jesus is the lone mediator between God and man.

“No one can acquire an intimate union with Jesus and a perfect fidelity to the Holy Spirit without being greatly united with Mary.” (Ibid)

What are the Romans here teaching? Simply that fellowship with Christ comes only through being united with Mary.

The Apostle John declared: 1 John 1:3  truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

But for Rome, their fellowship is with Mary, then the Son, and then the Father.

“When God deeply loves a soul, and finds it stained with sin, He covers it with a beautiful mantle that makes it precious to Him -- that mantle is Mary...  To be devoted to you, O' Mary, is a weapon of salvation which God gave to those whom He positively wants to save”. {Ibid}

Oh how dreadful a teaching! According to this Roman Catholic, GOD covers the sinner with the mantle of Mary!

What a fearful thought to stand before God cloaked in the righteousness of any person born of man! For even the righteousness of Mary, is as filthy rags before the holy eyes of GOD.

No man, besides the Son of GOD, has lived good enough to warrant salvation. No one has been every whit clean besides him! You attempt to stand before the HOLY GOD JEHOVAH with a single blot of sin, and the fires of his glory will consume you. There is but one whose righteousness, is the righteousness of perfection and that is CHRIST!

In the Kingdom we will not be singing, “I’ve been covered by the deeds of Mary”, but I’ve been washed in the blood of the Lamb! (Revelation 7:14).

One day, right before his Death, John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask Jesus a very serious question.

Luke 7:20  When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

Are you HE? Or should we look for another?

If Jesus is HE, then friends we must not look for another.

You may be a Protestant and the thought of exalting Mary in the Roman way may have never crossed your mind, but the temptation to look for another is still there.

Sometimes we look to Pastors, and to Church organizations. But more often than not, we look to ourselves.

You may think that you can look to your good works to save you.

You may think that your obedience is going to save you.

You may think that the practice of certain rituals is going to save you.

But they cannot.

When the people were being bit with fiery serpents in the wilderness, God instructed Moses to lift up a brass serpent on a pole, and who ever looked upon it would be saved from that death.

In the same way Christ has been lifted on wooden cross, and to be saved you must look to him, and to him only.

Look to his redeeming blood. Look to his sinless life. Look to him as Mediator, and intercessor. Look to him for Divine fellowship and Salvation.... for there is no other.
